Pseudocoloring
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008194
The technique of assigning artificial colors to grayscale images or data to enhance the visibility of features or to represent quantitative values. In atmospheric science, this is often applied to satellite imagery, radar data, or model output to highlight variations in parameters like cloud top temperature, precipitation intensity, or atmospheric constituent concentrations. Different colors are mapped to specific ranges of data values, making patterns and gradients more apparent to the human eye.
