Puelche
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008203
A strong, dry, and warm foehn wind that descends the Andes Mountains on the western side, affecting parts of Chile. This wind develops when moist air masses from the Pacific are forced to rise over the mountains, losing their moisture and warming adiabatically as they descend. Puelche winds can cause rapid temperature increases and contribute to fire danger in affected regions.
