Knik wind
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006793
A strong, gusty southeasterly wind of the Matanuska Valley in south-central Alaska, noted around Palmer. It arises from a pressure gradient across the Chugach Mountains, so air descending the lee slopes warms by compression and produces a foehn effect with sharp temperature rises. It blows most often in winter, and an episode can last from one to ten days.
