Resonance trough
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008534
An elongated area of relatively low atmospheric pressure that forms and persists due to resonance between atmospheric flow and underlying topography. This occurs when the wavelength of an atmospheric wave matches a characteristic length scale of a mountain range. Such troughs can lead to persistent weather anomalies downstream of the mountains.
