Resonance theory
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008533
A concept explaining how a system responds with amplified oscillations when subjected to an external forcing at or near its natural frequency. In atmospheric dynamics, this can describe how certain atmospheric waves or oscillations are enhanced by periodic forcing mechanisms, such as solar cycles or topographic features. An example is the amplification of planetary waves by specific mountain ranges, influencing global weather patterns.
