Resonance fluorescence
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008532
The process where an atom or molecule absorbs a photon of a specific wavelength and then re-emits a photon of the same wavelength. This phenomenon is used in atmospheric remote sensing to detect and quantify certain trace gases, such as hydroxyl radicals, by exciting them with a laser and measuring the emitted light. It provides highly sensitive measurements of atmospheric constituents.
