Sand snow
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010736
A type of snow that forms when supercooled water droplets freeze onto sand particles suspended in the atmosphere. This process creates snow crystals with a sandy texture and appearance, often occurring in arid or semi-arid regions where strong winds can loft sand into cold, moist air masses. These unique snow formations can impact surface albedo and local hydrological cycles.
