Seclusion

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008733

The process in a mature extratropical cyclone where the warm sector is completely lifted off the surface by the advancing cold front, which then merges with the occluded front. This isolates a pocket of warm air aloft, leading to a weakening of the surface low-pressure system. The term is often associated with the Norwegian cyclone model.
