Shelterbelt

A barrier of trees or shrubs planted to protect an area from wind, snow, or other adverse weather conditions. These plantings reduce wind speed, thereby decreasing soil erosion, conserving moisture, and providing protection for crops, livestock, and buildings. The effectiveness of a shelterbelt depends on its height, density, and length relative to the protected area.
