Snowbreak
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008994
A structure or planting, such as a fence or row of trees, designed to reduce wind speed and control the deposition of blowing snow. It forces airborne snow to accumulate in a designated area, preventing the formation of deep drifts on roads, railways, or around buildings. The effectiveness of a snowbreak depends on its height, porosity, and distance from the area to be protected.
