Sheltering coefficient

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008839

A dimensionless factor that quantifies the degree to which an object, such as a soil particle or plant, is protected from the full force of the wind by surrounding elements. It represents the reduction in wind shear stress on a surface due to the presence of roughness elements. The coefficient's value ranges from 0 for a completely exposed surface to 1 for a fully sheltered one, and it is incorporated into models of wind erosion and evapotranspiration.
