Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009071
A cold, broad, slow-moving ocean current that flows eastward across the South Pacific Ocean between approximately 40°S and 50°S latitude. It forms the southern segment of the South Pacific Gyre and is driven by the prevailing westerly winds in the region. This current connects the eastward-turning Tasman Front to the west with the northward-flowing Peru Current along the coast of South America, completing the large-scale subtropical circulation.
