Space Environment In-Situ Suite

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009080

A set of four sensors on the GOES-R series of geostationary satellites designed to monitor space weather conditions at the satellite's location. The Space Environment In-Situ Suite (SEISS) measures energetic particle fluxes from the magnetosphere and the sun, which can pose a radiation hazard to astronauts, spacecraft, and high-altitude aircraft. Its instruments include a Magnetospheric Particle Sensor, Solar and Galactic Proton Sensor, and Energetic Heavy Ion Sensor.
