Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010767
An instrument package designed to observe the sun at multiple wavelengths, providing imagery and data on solar phenomena. The Solar Imaging Suite (SIS) typically includes telescopes and detectors that capture images in the visible, ultraviolet, and extreme ultraviolet portions of the spectrum. The SIS on the GOES-R series satellites, for example, monitors the sun's disk to identify solar flares, coronal mass ejections, and other space weather hazards.
