Sporadic E-layer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009159
An unusual patch of high electron density that forms intermittently within the E region of the ionosphere. These thin, transient layers are created by wind shear acting on metallic ions, concentrating them into dense clouds capable of reflecting radio waves. Sporadic E-layers occur at altitudes between 90 and 120 kilometers and can reflect frequencies up to 150 MHz, far higher than the normal E-layer's limit of around 4 MHz.
