Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010780
A period of unseasonably warm, dry, and calm weather that occurs in autumn, especially in parts of Europe. This spell of mild, sunny days appears after the first frosts of the season and provides a temporary return to summer-like conditions. The phenomenon is associated with a persistent high-pressure system that blocks colder air and is named for St. Martin's Day on November 11, around which time it often occurs.
