Stagnation area

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009182

A region in a fluid flow where the velocity of the fluid is significantly reduced or brought to a near standstill. In meteorology, this can refer to an area where air masses become nearly stationary, often leading to the accumulation of pollutants or prolonged weather patterns. High-pressure systems can create large-scale atmospheric stagnation areas.
