Synoptic type

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009480

A classification of large-scale atmospheric circulation patterns or weather situations that are recurrent and associated with distinct regional weather characteristics. These types are often identified through statistical analysis of pressure fields, wind patterns, or other meteorological variables. They are used in synoptic climatology to relate broad atmospheric states to local climate responses.
