Synoptic wave chart
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010804
A weather map that depicts wave-like patterns in the atmospheric flow, particularly the long waves, known as Rossby waves, in the mid-to-upper troposphere. These charts display features like ridges of high pressure and troughs of low pressure by plotting contours of constant geopotential height on a constant pressure surface. The movement and development of these waves govern the day-to-day weather changes over large regions.
