Thunderhead

The upper, often anvil-shaped portion of a cumulonimbus cloud, indicative of a mature thunderstorm. This part of the cloud is composed primarily of ice crystals and spreads out horizontally when it reaches the stable air of the tropopause. The appearance of a thunderhead signals the presence of a strong updraft within the storm.
