Toxic pollutants

Substances present in the atmosphere at concentrations that can cause adverse health effects in humans or harm to the environment. These can include heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, and persistent organic pollutants. Regulatory bodies, such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, identify and regulate specific toxic air pollutants.
