Peroxides

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007870

Chemical compounds containing an oxygen-oxygen single bond, often denoted as R-O-O-R', where R and R' are organic or inorganic groups. In the atmosphere, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and organic peroxides are formed through photochemical reactions involving volatile organic compounds and nitrogen oxides. These compounds act as oxidants and are involved in the cycling of atmospheric pollutants and the formation of aerosols.
