Video gain
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010018
An adjustable parameter in radar systems that controls the amplification of the received video signal before it is displayed or processed. Increasing video gain makes weaker radar echoes more visible, potentially revealing distant or light precipitation that might otherwise be missed. However, excessive gain can also amplify noise and clutter, obscuring actual weather targets.
