Vorticity-transport hypothesis

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010071

A concept in turbulence theory suggesting that turbulent eddies primarily transport vorticity down the mean vorticity gradient. This hypothesis is used to model the effects of turbulence on the mean flow, particularly in shear flows. It implies that regions of high vorticity tend to spread out, while regions of low vorticity are filled in.
