Water resources

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010114

The supply of freshwater in a given region, available in surface forms like rivers and lakes and as groundwater in aquifers. These supplies are sustained by precipitation and are subject to losses from evaporation, transpiration, and runoff to the sea. The management of these resources involves assessing their quantity and quality to meet demands for agriculture, industry, and domestic consumption, often guided by hydrological modeling.
