Withershins
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010293
Rotation in a direction contrary to the sun's apparent motion, which is counter-clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere. In atmospheric dynamics, this describes the direction of spin for certain large-scale circulation patterns. For instance, low-pressure systems in the Northern Hemisphere and high-pressure systems in the Southern Hemisphere exhibit withershins rotation.
