Younger Dryas

A relatively abrupt and brief return to glacial conditions that occurred approximately 12,900 to 11,700 years ago, interrupting the general warming trend after the last glacial maximum. This cold period is believed to have been caused by a disruption of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation. Evidence for it is found in ice cores and sediment records.
