Zenith distance

The angular distance of a celestial object from the zenith, measured along the great circle passing through the zenith, the object, and the nadir. It is the complement of the altitude angle, meaning zenith distance plus altitude equals 90 degrees. This measurement is used in astronomy and surveying.
