Altitude

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003467

The vertical distance of an object or point in the atmosphere above a specified reference level, most commonly mean sea level. In aviation and meteorology, it is distinguished from height, which is the vertical distance above ground level. Pressure altitude is the altitude in a standard atmosphere corresponding to a measured atmospheric pressure, while density altitude is pressure altitude corrected for non-standard temperature.
