Backup curve
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000249
A secondary or alternative log curve recorded simultaneously with the primary measurement, intended for use if the main sensor fails or provides questionable data. It is recorded by a separate, sometimes less sophisticated, sensor integrated into the same logging tool. For example, a mechanical caliper arm on a logging tool serves as a backup for a more complex acoustic caliper measurement.
