Boltzmann probability distribution

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000396

A statistical mechanics principle describing the probability of a system being in a certain state as a function of that state's energy and the system's temperature. In reservoir simulation and petrophysics, it is applied to model the distribution of molecules and their energy states, influencing properties like fluid phase behavior and reaction kinetics. The distribution predicts that states with lower energy are more probable, with the probability ratio between two states depending exponentially on their energy difference.
