Bypass

A secondary flow path that allows fluid to circumvent a primary component or section of a drilling fluid circulation system. This can be intentionally designed, such as a bypass line around a shale shaker, or it can occur unintentionally due to equipment malfunction or poor sealing. Bypasses can affect the efficiency of solids removal or fluid treatment processes.
