Bypass velocity

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000507

The velocity of fluid that flows around a downhole logging tool rather than through its measurement section, particularly in openhole or large-diameter casing. This unmeasured flow can lead to inaccuracies in flow rate calculations if not accounted for. Specialized tools or correction factors are used to minimize the impact of bypass velocity on production logs.
