Bypassed mud
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000508
Drilling mud left in the annulus behind a casing or liner after cementing because the cement slurry flowed past it instead of displacing it. It remains in pockets or channels, most often on the narrow side of an off-center casing, and later dehydrates and turns porous, which lets formation fluids travel along the casing. Centralizers, pipe movement, and spacer fluids are the usual measures against it.
