Effective laminar flow
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001249
A flow regime used when planning primary cement placement, in which the spacer and cement move through the annulus in laminar flow at a rate chosen so that they displace the mud effectively instead of channeling past it. It is the alternative to effective turbulent flow, which is used when the pump rate can be raised enough to reach turbulence. The choice depends on casing standoff, pressure limits at weak formations, and the fluid rheologies.
