Effective medium theory
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001250
A theoretical approach that estimates the macroscopic properties of a heterogeneous material, such as a rock, based on the properties and spatial distribution of its constituent phases. It averages the responses of individual components to predict the overall behavior of the composite medium. This theory is applied to calculate bulk rock properties like permeability or electrical conductivity from the properties of the matrix and fluids.
