Dilatancy theory

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001087

A hypothesis proposing that changes in rock volume due to dilatancy, particularly before an earthquake, can cause measurable geophysical anomalies. These anomalies might include changes in seismic velocity, electrical resistivity, or fluid pressure. While studied, its predictive power for earthquakes remains a subject of ongoing research.
