Information theory
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001977
A mathematical framework for quantifying information content and uncertainty in data, applied in reservoir characterization to analyze well logs, seismic data, and production histories. It measures the reduction in uncertainty about a reservoir property after acquiring new data. Concepts like entropy and mutual information are used to assess data redundancy and the value of additional measurements.
