Heterogeneous formation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001814
A subsurface rock layer whose physical properties, such as permeability, porosity, and mineralogy, change from one location to another. This spatial variation can occur at multiple scales, from microscopic pore-level differences to large-scale layering or faulting that affects the entire reservoir. Well test analysis in heterogeneous formations is complex, as pressure responses deviate from the idealized behavior seen in homogeneous models.
