Spacer fluid
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003527
A fluid pumped into the wellbore between two incompatible fluids to prevent them from mixing. It creates a buffer zone, for example, between drilling mud and cement slurry, or between different types of drilling fluids. The properties of a spacer fluid, such as density and viscosity, are designed to achieve efficient displacement and prevent contamination.
