Mobility buffer
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004383
A volume of fluid, usually a polymer solution, injected into a reservoir following a slug of chemical agent in an enhanced oil recovery process. The buffer has a lower mobility than the displaced oil and water, creating a graded mobility zone between the chemical slug and the final drive water. This prevents viscous fingering and provides a more stable, piston-like displacement of the oil bank toward production wells.
