Buffer solution
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004247
An aqueous solution containing a mixture of a weak acid and its conjugate base, or a weak base and its conjugate acid, designed to resist pH changes. In drilling fluid analysis and laboratory testing, buffer solutions are used to calibrate pH meters and as standards for quality control procedures. These solutions are prepared to precise pH values, such as 4.0, 7.0, and 10.0, to bracket the expected measurement range of the drilling fluid being tested.
