Flocculation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001463
The process in which finely dispersed solid particles in a drilling fluid coalesce to form larger, loosely bound aggregates called flocs. This phenomenon can be intentionally induced by chemical additives to enhance solids removal or can occur undesirably, leading to increased viscosity and poor fluid properties. It is a key aspect of solids control and waste management.
