Cloud point
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000709
The temperature at which a clear liquid, such as an oil or a surfactant solution, begins to appear cloudy due to the formation of small wax crystals or the separation of components. In oil-based drilling fluids, it indicates the temperature below which paraffin wax may precipitate, potentially leading to increased viscosity or gelation. For non-ionic surfactants, it marks the temperature above which they become insoluble in water.
