Precipitate
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002897
To form an insoluble solid from a solution, either by a chemical reaction or by a change in physical conditions such as temperature or pressure. In drilling fluids, unwanted precipitates can form due to incompatible fluid mixing, changes in pH, or exposure to formation brines, potentially causing formation damage or equipment fouling. Calcium carbonate is a common precipitate in some mud systems.
