Dog collar

A safety clamp fitted around the body of a perforating gun, drill collar or other tubular so the string stays supported on the rotary table or slips and cannot fall into the well while sections are made up or laid down. It grips the pipe body and carries the string weight on the rig floor equipment. Clamps of this kind are covered by API Specification 7K.
