Dynamic positioning
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001228
A computer-controlled system that automatically maintains a vessel's position and heading using its own propulsion units and thrusters. Sensors detect external forces like wind, waves, and currents, and the system adjusts the thrust to counteract them. This technology is widely used for offshore drilling rigs, dive support vessels, and pipelay barges that need to stay precisely over a subsea location without anchors.
