Acoustic positioning
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000045
A method of determining the precise location of underwater objects or vessels using sound waves. Transponders on the object emit acoustic signals that are received by hydrophones at known locations, allowing triangulation of the object's position. This technique is used in offshore oil and gas operations for dynamic positioning of drilling rigs and tracking subsea equipment.
