Foundation model
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001544
A large-scale artificial intelligence model trained on a massive, broad dataset that can be adapted to a wide variety of downstream tasks. These models serve as a base for specialized applications in oil and gas, such as seismic data interpretation, analysis of unstructured maintenance logs, or forecasting production decline curves with minimal task-specific training. A foundation model contrasts with traditional models built from scratch on smaller, narrowly focused datasets for a single purpose.
