Hallucination
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001782
The generation of factually incorrect, nonsensical, or fabricated information by an AI model, which is presented as if it were factual. In an oil and gas application, a model might hallucinate by inventing details of a geological formation, citing a non-existent technical paper, or creating false maintenance records for a piece of equipment. This phenomenon occurs because the model is designed to predict plausible sequences of text, not to retrieve information from a verified knowledge base.
